Today is the final day of RootsTech 2017 and we’re headed towards the end zone! Those who registered for Family Discovery Day will join RootsTech attendees at 1 p.m. at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Live-streaming will continue today at RootsTech.org beginning at 8:30 a.m. Even if you’re #NotAtRootsTech, the #RootsTech giveaway begins today on Twitter so follow @RootsTechConf to enter to win!
The opening session will feature CeCe L. Moore, a prominent genetic genealogist, and Buddy Valastro, also known as The Cake Boss-TM. Later in the day, Valastro will serve as one of the judges of the first RootsTech cake decorating contest. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the People’s Choice Awards for each category: wedding, birthday, holiday, and graduation.
Family Discovery Day will be held concurrently in the afternoon, featuring President Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife, Sister Wendy Watson Nelson.
Later Sheri Dew will return to the stage and report on her family history progress since last year. She will be joined by Vai Sikahema and Reno Mahe, who both played football at Brigham Young University and who later played for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL. They also happen to be related. Mahe is Sikahema’s nephew.
Family Discovery Day sessions will be streamed live at lds.org in 3 languages—English, Spanish, and Portuguese:
- 1:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. President Russell M. and Sister Wendy Watson Nelson
- 2:15 p.m.–3:15 p.m. Sheri Dew, Vai Sikahema, and Reno Mahe
- 3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m. Home with Hank Smith
I regret that Kalani F. Sitake, BYU’s head football coach, will not be able to attend RootsTech 2017 as previously announced.
The Mormon Channel is seeking stories about family’s and family history. You can find the production crew near 252B. It takes about 5 minutes to tell your story.
The Expo Hall will be open from 10:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and will feature activities for Family Discovery Day. Don’t forget your wristband given to you at registration!
At 5:00 p.m. RootsTech will hold its closing event, Celebrating Life with Music … AND Cake. Jason Hewlett, our MC for RootsTech, BYU’s Vocal Point, the men’s a cappella chorus, and Noteworthy, the women’s a cappella chorus will entertain us. This end zone celebration will not be penalized!
Whether or not you are at RootsTech, have a fabulous day!
